Many Christians around the world suffer persecution for their faith. Islamic radicals, oppressive Buddhists in Myanmar, communists in China, and others as well, show intolerance and prejudice against believers.
Some in the West believe that the “rapture” will take them away to safety in heaven before persecution breaks out in the Great Tribulation which is yet to come. Novels such as the “Left Behind” series by Tim La Haye have popularised this view. However, the Biblical support for this is weak, and it is also inconsistent with the experience of Christians outside the privileged West who currently experience all that the West expects in that Tribulation.
In this sermon I examine the arguments for the Rapture, and argue that the Scriptures teach quite a different picture of the return of the Lord.
